Converting Palm Waste into Biogas for Sabah Softwoods Berhad

Industry : Palm Oil Plantation
Project : Biogas
Details : Energy Generation – 1.2MW (up to 2MW)
Savings : 96% Reduction in Diesel Cost Carbon emission reduction

Invest Energy (formerly known as Konpro Energy) in collaboration with Konsultant Proses Sdn Bhd as the lead project manager co-developed a methane capture biogas power plant at Kapilit Palm Oil Mill, Ladang Kapilit in Kalabakan, Tawau, Sabah. The lagoon based digester was designed to handle 20,000m3 of palm oil mill effluent (POME) and 2MW of electricity. Based on a 45TPH/Hr palm oil mill, the biogas plant generates 1.2MW of electricity which is diverted back to the mill and partly to the estate living quarters. The balance of around 600m3 of biogas is being flared. The project itself generates almost 96% of savings in diesel consumption and reduction in green house gas emissions.

Sabah Softwoods is 70% owned by Innoprise Corporation Sdn Bhd, the investment arm and holding company of Yayasan Sabah Group. Its core business is in timber and oil palm milling and woodchip production.
